These funds will be identified within the Probation Department's FY 1997/1998 and/or 1998/1999 budgets and will be appropriated for the required project purposes if the grant is approved by the State Board of Corrections. REASONS FOR.[RFCOMMENDABO '/B MROUND: The inadequacy of the County's Juvenile Hall has been well documented in recent years. The Board of Supervisors has previously approved the continuum of care concept set forth in the Juvenile Hall Replacement project(January 11, 1994). The availability of these Federal funds through the State Board of Corrections enables this County to add 13 additional beds to the Tamalpals Unit at the hall. These would be secure beds for the most serious offenders. (The net gain in beds would be 10 since 3 beds must be demolished in order to expand the Tamalpais Unit.) Matching funds will be provided by way of appropriation in the current year or next year's budget for the Probation Department. There will be a slight increase in the need for additional staffing because of additional beds. This will be provided for in the Department's 1998/1999 budget. Additional staffing would be as required by Title 15, California Code of Regulations. The project has been recommended for approval by the County's Juvenile Systems Planning Advisory Committee (JSPAC).
