Board of Supervisors Of Contra Costa County, State of California M the Matter Declaring February 28, 1998) Arts education Remnition Day ) M the City of Walnut Creek and ) Contra Casts County y Resolution No. 981 60 WHEREAS, education plays a critical role In encouraging citizens of all ages to develop and express their creative instincts and artistic talents; and WHEREAS, education opens new doors and provides exciting new experiences in the participation, appreciation, and enjoyment of the arts;and WHEREAS,the arts aro Integral to the enrichment of the lives of all our citizens and are an Important contribution to the overall duality of tire;and WHEREAS, this program has continued to expand on a regional basis,effectively serving other communities of Central Contra Costa County through special outreach classes,workshops and ager-school activities; and WHEREAS, this program is the only location in the area where a comprehensive curriculum of arts for youth is available, augmenting local school arts programs that have been severely reduced; and WHEREAS, this program has grown to become the largest community arts education program in Northern California, serving more than 15,000 children, team and adults annually from throughout Central Contra Costa County through nearly 600 classes and workshops; and WHEREAS, the California Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts have described the program as"exemplary': NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, recognizing with great appreciation iation that Civic Arts Education has performed an invaluable service for 35 years and is well on Its way to serving well into the new millennium; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares February 26, 1996 Walnut Creek Civic Arts Education Day in Contra Costa County as a salute to the beginning of a series of 3e Anniversary special arts events over the next seven months to which all citizens are Invited. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 241'day of February 1996.
