February 1998 as "Sweetheart Scam } RESOLUTION NO. 98131
Awareness Month" }
WHEREAS, it is acknowledged that the elderly are in constant danger of being targets of those
whose purpose is to defraud them of their funds by convincing them of needless service, and
WHEREAS, the Elder Angels of San Francisco have spearheaded the Bay Area effort to
educate not only seniors, but also the general public about confidence schemes that have
victimized our more aged citizens; and
WHEREAS, those schemes have been presented as unnecessary or substandard repairs on
homes; and
WHEREAS, victimization has also taken the form of abuse or threats of abuse for not
submitting; and
WHEREAS, a proactive stand is necessary in fighting this evil against our elders; and
WHEREAS, it is time for government and the community to join forces against the aforesaid
deceit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Bard of Supervisors declares February
1998 as "Sweetheart Scam Awareness Month".
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON February 3, 1998, by a unanimous vote of the Board
members present.
