HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011997 - 1997-252 IN SUPPORT OF THE COASTAL RESOLUTION NO. 97/252 CONSERVANCY GRANT FOR THE EDWARDS CREEK ENHANCEMENT PLAN WHEREAS, THE COASTAL CONSERVANCY is a state agency working in partnership with public agencies, non-profit organizations and land owners to protect and restore natural resources along the coast and San Francisco Bay; and WHEREAS, THE COASTAL CONSERVANCY may award grants to qualified non-profit agencies for the purpose of enhancing San Francisco Bay resources which have suffered a loss of habitat value due to natural or human induced events; and WHEREAS, THE COASTAL CONSERVANCY legislation specifies that it can fund resource enhancement projects in Contra Costa County only upon the formal request by resolution of a local public agency having jurisdiction over the project area; and WHEREAS, THE COASTAL CONSERVANCY is considering awarding a grant to the Carquinez Regional Environmental Education Center in order to train students from the Carquinez Middle School in the restoration of Edwards Creek; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors is in support of enlisting school children in efforts to protect and restore Edwards Creek and its watershed, particularly as it flows through the town of Crockett. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby requests that the Coastal Conservancy provide a grant to the Carquinez Regional Environmental Education Center for the Edwards Creek Enhancement Flan.
