HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011997 - 1997-179 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF _ CONTRA COSTA COUNT, ST47E OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Proclaiming May 1997 ) as DROWNING PREVEN77ON MONTH) RESOLU777ON NO. 971 179 In Co= Costa C M ) WHEREAS, the summer months are approaching and people will soon be spending warm, sunny days outside in their yards and swimming pools, and WHEREAS, tragically, summertime is also associated with increasing numbers of drowning incidents; and -WHEREAS, children under five years of age are especially vulnerable to drowning deaths and injuries associated with near drowning submersions; and WHEREAS, the Drowning Prevention Foundation, in cooperation with the Contra Costa Health Services Department, will conduct a drowning prevention educational outreach campaign in the spring and summer of 1997 through Labor Day; and WHEREAS, the purpose of this effort is to irVorm the public that drownings can be prevented when people are aware of the problems and know how to eliminate them; and WHEREAS, raising community awareness about swimming pool sgety is critical for the protection of our children from preventable drowning. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors proclaims May 1997 as DROWNING PREVENTION MONTH in Contra Costa County and calls upon the citizens of the County to take the necessary precautions to ensure a sae and happy summer.
