of
Contra Costa County, California
In the Matter of Declaring Resolution No. 97! 146
April 1 -April 30, 1997
As "Women's History Month"in
Contra Costa County _- J
Whereas, women helped found this Nation and this County as pioneer wives, mothers,
teachers, servants, industrial, agricultural and child care workers; and
Whereas, women continue to play important economic, cultural, and social roles in all
areas of our Nation's life, contributing a significant portion of our labor force by working
.inside and outside the home; and
Whereas, women were early leaders in social movements to secure their right to vote, to
own property, and to receive equal treatment under the law; and
Whereas, despite the fact that women in Contra Costa County have contributed to the
County's development and progress, too frequently their contributions and achievements
have been undervalued; and
Whereas, community organizations, cities, special districts and counties throughout
California-will be sponsoring and attending events dedicated to the spirit of recognizing
the contributions of women in the development of our nation;
Now, therefore, we the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County declare April 1
through April 30, 1997 to be "Women's History Month" in Contra Costa County.
