HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011997 - 1997-134 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring April 1997 as ) INCREASE THE PEACE - VIOLENCE ) RESOLUTION NO. 971 134 PREVENTION MONTH in Contra ) Cn.cta County WHEREAS, Contra Costa County has for the past 13 years been actively involved in innovative violence prevention efforts including the 1994 Action Plan for Violence Prevention, the 1995 countywide regulation of gun dealers, the 1996 countywide ban on sales of junk guns, and creation of regional partnerships to address violence prevention; and WHEREAS, violence has impacted every segment of the county population, particularly youth ages 10-19 who are at highest risk of gun violence, and men, women, and children of all ages who suffer the impacts of violence in the media, physical and sexual assaults, homicide, and domestic battering; and WHEREAS, the County's Health Services Department and the Juvenile Justice-Delinquency Prevention Commission along with Kaiser Permanente and John Muir Medical Center have agreed to coordinate and sponsor April 1997 as "Increase the Peace - Violence Prevention Month;" and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County's community partnerships of Opportunity West ('West County), Delta 2000 (East County), and the Center for Human Development (Central & South County) have agreed to prepare a series of violence prevention activities involving the schools, community groups, local government, and the general public for the month of April. .. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares April 1997 as INCREASE THE PEACE- VIOLENCE PREVENTION MONTH in Contra Costa County and encourages the active participation of the residents to help promote safe and violence free families and communities. PASSED AND ADOPTED ON April 1, 1997, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
