HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 09091997 - 97-456 f t- I THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on September 9, 1997 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Uil'kema, Gerber, Canciamilla, and DeSaulnier NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor Rogers ABSTAIN: None RESOLUTION NO. 97/456 SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION FOR CONTRA COSTA COUNTY ADULT LITERACY AWARENESS WEEK WHEREAS, September 8th is International Literacy Day; and WHEREAS, a literate population benefits the entire community; and WHEREAS, volunteers working one-on-one help adults master basic reading and writing skills; and WHEREAS, Project Second Chance is part of a national effort to break the cycle of illiteracy within families; and WHEREAS, we joyously celebrate the accomplishments of the 2,644 learners and their volunteer tutors who have participated in Project Second Chance during the past 14 years. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County proclaims the week of September 8 -14, 1997 as Adult Literacy Awareness Week in Contra Costa County and encourages all adult residents needing to be tutored or wanting to become tutors to contact their local library for more information about Project Second Chance, the Contra Costa County Library adult literacy program.
