HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 12051995 - 95-584 C IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter Supporting the John ) Swett Unified School District in ) Their Efforts to Relocate Schools ) Because of Health &Safety Reasons ) Resolution No. 95/584 ) WHEREAS, recent local events within Contra Costa County have occurred whereby the health, safety and welfare of students, staff and residents of the John Sweat Unified School District have been endangered; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County has received a resolution from the Board of Trustees of the John Swett Unified School District which states the necessity to relocate the Hillcrest and Garretson Schools, and its Administrative Center, due to a threat to life and safety of its students, staff and residents; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County has received a report from the County Health Officer concluding that a threat to life and safety exists affecting the health, safety and welfare of the students, staff and residents the John Swett Unified School District; and WHEREAS, the State Allocation Board has established procedures to provide for priority processing of funding, in whole or in part, for new school facilities and other required facilities, when life and safety hazards exist: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the Board of Supervisors hereby determines that the continued use of the Hillcrest and Garretson Schools and the District Administrative Center of the John Swett Unified School District poses a life and safety hazard to the students, staff and residents of the County of Contra Costa within the meaning of the extreme hardship policy of the State Allocation Board adopted March 27, 1991, and qualifies for priority funding under Title 1, Division 1, Part 10, Chapter 22 of the Education Code and the state funding anticipated to be authorized at a statewide bond election to be held in 1996 or thereafter. ,jection 2. That the Board of Supervisors requests that the State Allocation Board, pursuant to Section 17705.1 of the Education Code, authorize the loan of funds to the John Swett Unified School District for the purpose of relocating the Hillcrest and Garretson Schools and the District Administrative Center. Section 3. That the Board of Supervisors hereby directs the County Health Officer of Contra Costa County to communicate with applicable state level agencies to obtain their support and concurs with the finding that a threat to life and safety exists to students, staff and residents of the John Swett Unified School District.
