HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011993 - 1993-568 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA "COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter commending Rasa Louise Parks for her life-long commitment to civil rights and ) Resolution No. 93/568 welcoming her to Contra Costa } County. } Whereas, Rosa Louise Parks is nationally recognized as the "Mother of the Modern Day Civil 'Rights Movement" in America; and Whereas, Mo. parks;, has been an °activist for over 60 years,' working::for civil rights in this country :for African Americans and all Americans; and Whereas, Contra Costa County has been inspired by the bravery and dedication of Ms. Parks ;to bring an end to injustice and racism in our society; and Whereas, Ms. Rosa 'Parks will forever be remembered for her statement to the American people on human rights and freedom the day in 1955 when she refused to surrender her seat on an Alabama 'bus to a'' white male passenger; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY that they hereby command Rosa Louise Parks for her tireless dedication to racial justice and freedom and for being an inspiration for four decades to the young and the old of every culture; and BE IT FURTHER 'RESOLVED` that the Board of Supervisors are grateful to Ms. Parks' visit to Contra Costa County and participation in a 'benefit for Neighborhood House of North Richmond, which has supported the residents in the North ` Richmond community for 43 years: Introduced. by: Passed and adopted Supervisor Tom Powers by unanimous votes of District I those Supervisors ' present on September 28, 1953.
