HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011993 - 1993-529 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA IN THE MATTER OF PROCLAIMING) SEPTEMBER 20-24, 1993 AS BEAT THE BACKUP WEEK ) RESOLUTION NO.. 93/529 IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY WHEREAS, Bay Area residents have identified transportation as a major problem facing the _region; and WHEREAS, use of alternatives to driving along, even one day a week, can reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and conserve fuel; and WHEREAS, commuters already committed to not driving alone are encouraging friends, neighbors, and colleagues to make the same commitment; and WHEREAS, rides'haring and transit partners are striving to effect a visible and long-lasting change in commute behavior through public education and awareness of commute alternatives;; and WHEREAS, the Bay Area can serve as a model for an effective partnership between' employers, transportation agencies, community organizations, 'and 'others to solve these problems; and WHEREAS,, the California Department of Transportation, local transportation agencies, employers, other organizations, and commuters throughout the Bay Area will observe Beat the, Back-Up Week; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Contra Costa County does hereby proclaim September 20-24, 1993 Beat the Back-Up Week and urges all citizens to recognize the importance of using commute alternatives to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, and decrease dependence on fossil fuels. PASSED and ADOPTED, this fourteenth day of September 1993 , by unanimous vote of the Board members present`.
