HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011993 - 1993-527 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter Proclaiming ) August 28, 1993 as Jobs, ) Justice and Peace Day } in Contra Costa County Resolution No. 93/5 2 7 WHEREAS, the 34th anniversary of the historic Civil Rights March for jobs and freedom is being commemorated with marches in San Francisco on August 28, 1993, as well as in Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, a coalition representing a broad cross-section of America, including those deeply committed to civil rights,to the advancement of labor, peace, the rights of women and other minorities, senior citizens, religious organizations and many others are coming together under those basic and interlocking issues of JOBS, JUSTICE and PEACE to march again in pursuit of the "Dream" so eloquently proclaimed by the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., ; and WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Dream" articulated in a simple and irrefutable way the need for America to change its priorities so that every American would be guaranteed a job, basic civil rights and a life free from the fear of war; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of`Contra Costa County is proud to reaffirm its unwavering pledge to these lofty goals as espoused by one of the world's outstanding leaders, NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa:County does hereby proclaim August 28, 1993, as JOBS, JUSTICE AND PEACE DAY in Contra Costa County.
