HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011993 - 1993-458 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY,STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter Commending Chevron U.S.A.,Richmond Refinery, ) For Its Contribution to Enhancing The''Wildcat Marshlands ) Resolution No, 93/ 4 5 8 WHEREAS, the Wildcat Marsh, located at the confluence of Wildcat Creek and the San Pablo Bay,is owned by Chevron U.S.A.; and WHEREAS, in the review of plans to enhance the Wildcat and San Pablo Creeks as a Federal Flood Control Project, a'Design Team was established to assist County'staff in resolvingpolicy matters; and WHEREAS, the Design Team found that improvements could be made to the wetland resource potential of Wildcat Marsh adjacent to the Wildcat Creek Flood Control project and encouraged the California Coastal Conservancy to fund a marsh enhancement engineering study; and WHEREAS, legal problems arose dealing with the concern of potential contaminants which could theoretically exist on the Wildcat Marsh site. The State consequently declined to accept any,land rights to the Marsh thereby causing fear that the project would not proceed; and WHEREAS,,given that circumstance, Chevron U.S.A., Richmond'Refinery, agreed to take over the project from Contra Costa County and the California Coastal Conservancy to fund and improve Wildcat Marsh as a local environmental enhancement, even though their costs exceeded one million dollars; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors wishes to publicly'acknowledge the efforts of Chevron.U.S.A. in completing the Wildcat Marsh Enhancements; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Contra Costa:County Board of Supervisors recognizes Chevron U.S.A., Richmond Refinery, as a good neighbor concerned with environmental issues as exemplified by their investment in the future of San Pablo Bay and its wildlife.
