In the Matter of Recognizing )

WHEREAS, 1993 marks the Silver Anniversary Celebration of one of the nation's premier jazz
festivals, and
WHEREAS, this year's Festival is being presented in honor of Carl Jefferson,founder of the Jazz
Festival and President of Concord Jazz Records, which is observing its 20th year as one of the
world's top independent jazz labels; and
WHEREAS, the Fujitsu Concord Jazz Festival brought popular and cultural entertainment to
Contra Costa County and the East Bay for the, rst time,playing a major role in the cultural and
economic development of the area; and
WHEREAS, the Festival resulted in the creation of the Concord Pavilion, which is known as the
"house that jazz built. " The award-:winning Pavilion, designed by the world-renowned architect,
Frank Gehry, is widely,recognized as the principal outdoor amphitheater in Northern California,-
and
WHEREAS, the annum Fujitsu Concord Jazz Festival continues to positively impact the quality
of life in Contra Costa County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors recognizes the 25th
Anniversary of the FUJITSU CONCORD JAZZ FESTIVAL and extends its appreciation to the
Festival's organizers and participants and best wishes for continued success.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON July 13, 1993, by a unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
