Contra Costa County' Victims' Rights Week
PEC IFIC REOUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)A BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RESOLUTION NO. 93/176
WHEREAS, there is a` great need to promote efforts by public
and private sectors of our County to act to prevent crime and to
provide greatly needed services to innocent victims of crime';
WHEREAS, the impact of crime, especially crimes of violence
and abuse, can be devastating and may affect many areas of the
lives of victims and their families; and
WHEREAS, a fair and balanced criminal justice system must
ensure that the need's and rights of victims are not overlooked in
the process of protecting the rights of the accused; and
WHEREAS, the observance of Victims' Rights Week provides an
opportunity to inform the public of the problems,, needs and
rights of victims and witnesses, and of the range of services and
assistance available', and to acknowledge the efforts of concerned
-
citizens, lawmakers and the criminal 'justice system to provide
and continue to improve these service's;
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Probation Department' s,
victim/Witness Program and all citizens of Contra Costa County
who are: concerned about crime victims will join together during
National Victims' Rights': Week to,promote greater public awareness
of the need to support victims' rights and victim` services
programs

WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Probation Department's
Victim/Witness Assistance Program joins federal and state
officials and numerous national, 'state and local organizations in
observing April 251 to May 1, 1993 as Victims' Rights Week;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County that April 21 to 27, 1991 be designated
Contra Costa County Victims' 'Rights Week;; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County rededicates its energies and resources to
recognize the rights and needs of victims of crime.
