IN TETE MATTER OF RESOLUTIONNO. 93/147
Honoring Bob Dal Porto on His
Induction into the Liberty Union High
School District Athletic Hall of Fame
WlwTly�AS,induction ceremonies into'the 1993 Liberty Union High School Athletic Hall of Fame
will be held on March 27, 1993, to honor special members of the community who have made valuable
contributions to the Liberty High School athletic program and Bob Dal Porto has been selected to receive this
prestigious honor;
VdIEREAS,while at Liberty High School,Bob was an outstanding all-around athlete, scholar and
student leader. He played and lettered in football,basketball,track, baseball and tennis. He played on
championship teams in football,basketball,and track. He was active as Senior Class President and a member
of the Black"L"society. He was a member of the L€.l'HS Band and Orchestra. Bob was a Life Member of
the California Scholastic Federation and was the Scholarship Cup winner his senior year. He was V, ledic-
torian for the Class of 1942;
VdER +►S, after graduating from high shcool, Bob went to UC-Berkeley where he excelled in:
football,track and basketball as a freshman in 1942-43. His college career was interrupted by World War II
and he went into the U.S.Naval Aviation Cadet Program;

dIEREAS,Bob was discharged from the service in May 1945 and returned to UC Berkeley to finish
his education. He again played football and ran on the track team. He played on the Conference Champion
team in the Rose Bowl against Northwestern on January 1, 1949. This was Cal's first Rase Bowl team since
the 1935 team. In track,Bob competed during the 1947,1948,and 1949 seasons in the high and law hurdles,
javelin,and the relay team;
VAIEREAS, while at Cal, Bob served on President Sproul's Althletic Advisory Board. He was:
President and member of the Big"C"-•a three year letterman, he was given the Blanket Award. He was a
member of the Order of the Golden Bears Honor Society and the Skull and Keys Honor Society as well as
the Winged Helmet Heanor Society. He graduated from University of California in 1949 with honors with a
3.5 in Industrial Engineering. He was student speaker at the commencement exercises;
VVHEREAS,Bob was drafted by the Leis Angeles lams and received inquiries from the New York
Giants,Buffalo Bills,and the New York Yankees football teams choosing instead to return home to become
a cattle rancher and community leader. He is a Past President of the Brentwood Lions Club and served on
the Oakley Union School District Board of Trustees for 19 years. He has served on at least ten boards of
directors or committees in the past years. In 1958,Bob was named Contra Costa County's Outstanding Young
Farmer by the Contra Costa Junior Chamber of Commerce District;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE'PT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors hereby honors Bob Dal
Porto for his outstanding performance as an all-around athlete and scholar while a student at Liberty Union
High School and at UC-Berkeley and commends him for his dedicated'service to the community as a civic
leader and respectfully acknowledges his induction into the LUHSD Athletic Hall of Fame.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 23rd day of March, 1993.
