HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011993 - 1993-145 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY,CALIFORNIA IN THE MATTER.OF RESOLUTION NO. 9 3!'14 5 Honoring William'"Bill"Bunn on His Induction into the Liberty Union High School Athletic Hall of Fame WHEREAS,induction ceremonies into the 1993 Liberty Union High School District Athletic Hall of Fame will be held on March 27,1993, honoring special members of the community who have made valuable contributions to the Liberty High School athletic program, and "William "Bill" Bunn has been selected to receive this prestigious honor; AREAS,Bill'Bunn's athletic history at Liberty showed his talent and verstlity. He was an active and integral participant in all the sports then offered. He lettered four years in varsity football and was on the championship team of 1938. He was the Most'Valuable Player on the football team in 1939; WHEREAS, he lettered four years in basketball and played on the championship team of 1940. He lettered four years in baseball where he was an outstanding pitcher. He played on the 1939 championship team.He also earned a varsity letter as a trackman where he was a weightman. He won First Place in the discus at the St.Helena Invitational, VABEREAS,Bill went on to play basketball and and football at St.Mary's College in Moraga after being recruited by St.Mary's, Santa Clara and Washington; V&JEREAS, he returned to his beloved Byron and became a farmer--he was first and foremost a farmer for the greater part of his life. He always felt a strong commitment to serve his community and was involved in many organizations and committees. He served on the Board of Education for the Byron School District from 1957-1977 serving as President several times. In recognition of his dedicated service to the school district and his strong interest in young people,in 1977,the new administration building was named the William Bunn Administration Building in his honor. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,the Board of Supervisors hereby honors William "Bill" Bunn for outstanding athletic career atLibertyUnion High School and for dedicated service to the community. The Beard respectfully acknowledges his induction into the LUHSD Athletic Hall of Fame. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 23rd day of March, 1993. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order entered onto the minutes of said Board of Supervisors of the date aforesaid.
