IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 93/143
Honoring Jack England on His
Induction into the Liberty Union High
School District Hall of Fame
WFIEREAS,induction ceremonies into the 1993 Liberty Union High School Athletic Hall of Fame will
be held on March 27,1993 to honor special members of the community who have made valuable contributions
to the Liberty High School athletic program, and Jack England has been selected to receive this prestigious
honor;
"4V11ERTAS,while at Liberty High School,Jack England was a fine student and student leader. He was
one of the most versatile and outstanding athletes to ever play at Liberty High School. He letteredin four and
was outstanding in three varsity sports;
R?IiERE.AS,Jack earned his football letters in 1955 and 1956. Jack was a fine punter,defensive player,
passer, and a clever ball-handling quarterback; He was selected First Team All-EBAL in 1956.
'W',I- EREAS,Jack also played basketball earning his letter in 1957. He was selected to the First Team
All-EBALthat season. He earned his letter as a track man in 1957 as a high jumper who consistently jumped
5'8". He was also an outstanding swimmer,earning varsity swimming letters in 1955, 1956 and 1957. He was
Liberty's Most'Valuable Swimmer in 1957 and selected Team Captain.
WHEREAS,Jack was an outstanding student leader while in high school. He was Freshman Class
President in 1953-54, Sophomore Student Council Representative in 1954-55, Liberty Student Body Vice
President in 1955-56, and Commissioner for Athletics in 1956-57. He was also an honor student for all four
years, 1953-1957,
WHEREAS, after graduating from Liberty in 1957, Jack went to Eastern Washington College in
Cheney, Washington,where he lettered in varsity football for four years.
'WHEREAS,when Jack graduated from college with a BA degree in 1962,he was commissioned a 2nd
Lieutenant in the U.S.Army. After his military service,Jack became a teacher with the Brentwood Unified
School District in 1967. He became Delta Recreation Director in 1967 until 1971. He also coached the
Brentwood Swim Club from 1968 until 1977. He served as football coach and as swim coach at Liberty High
School for ten years.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors hereby commends Jack
England for his outstanding athletic and academic career at Liberty Union High School and in college and for
his dedicated service to the high school as a coach and to his community as an educator and civic leader and
respectfully acknowledges his induction into the LUHSD Athletic Hall of Fame.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members,present on this 23th Day of March,'1993.
