TO,: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS C^
FROM: TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE
DATE: January 25, 1993
SUBJECT: Resolution concerning the new Benicia-Martinez . Bridge.
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATIONS
Adopt a resolution prepared by TRANSPAC (central County regional
transportation planning committee) concerning the new Benicia-
Martinez bridge.
FISCAL IMPACT
None.
BA KGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
TRANSPAC has requested all its member jurisdictions to adopt a
common resolution concerning the Benicia-Martinez Bridge Project.
This resolution is consistent with previous County positions
concerning the bridge. Caltrans is preparing a Supplemental
Environmental Impact Report for the• bridge, as a result of comments
submitted on the Draft EIR. The Supplemental EIR will examine only
the fundable project, which includes construction of a bridge to
the east of the existing railroad bridge, toll plaza, and freeway
connections immediately to the north and south of the new bridge.
Current indications from Caltrans are that the toll plaza would be
situated on the Contra Costa side of the bridge, with toll
collection in the northbound direction.
