In Contra Costa County
WHEREAS, Dorothy A. Harkness began her public service'
career in November 1974 with Contra Costa 'County; and
0ZA�S1 on October 8, 1975, Dorothy was hired as
Secretary for the County Veteran Service Office' (CVSO) and on
November 4, 1981, she became Executive Secretary for that depart-
ment; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy was responsible for all aspects of
clerical operations and the "supervision of clerical staff. She
efficiently completed ongoing tasks and projects as assigned,
worked whenever and wherever needed whilemaintaining a positive,
cooperative attitude with subordinates, her peers and the 'public,
and
Wim, during her tenure with the CVSO, she served
under three county department heads who were enriched by her
competence, loyalty and integrity'; and
NSB;REAS, Dorothy's advice and sound judgment was fre-
quently sought regarding management, ' confidential and controver-
sial department issues and her resourcefulness enhanced the policy
and decision making ,process for the department thereby, in large
measure, contributing to the success and respected service for
which the CVSO is known; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy demonstrated' to be a trustworthy,
unselfish and humble county employee who reflected the highest
standards of public service;
NOW, 11111311 3MVE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CONTRA COSTA
COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS does hereby acknowledge the dedicated'
service and retirement of Dorothy A. Harkness 'and 'commends her for
an "exemplary public service career and, to further wish Dorothy
and her husband, Lee, who retired from Pacific Bell,' a peaceful
and prosperous retirement.
PASSED on June 16, 1992 by unanimous vote of the Board
members present.
