IM WHEREAS Clarence Woodard has been named Orinda's forty-second Citizen of the Year; and WHEREAS Clarence Woodard moved to Orinda thirty-eight years ago with his late wife, Patricia, and reused his family amidst the oaks and rolling hills, and WHEREAS Clarence e Woodard coached shed and Spon[SOJWL Orin&youth soccer,'basketball, and baseball teams, as well as 'coached the 1959' to 1962 championship''Summer League` baseball team; and WHEREAS Clarence Wird seeded the successful efforts' to acquire the Orinda School so that it could be converted by the citizens into the Orinda Community Center with an initial $5,000 donation to the O inda Foundation, along with his enthusiastic support; and WHEREAS Clarence Woodard led, directed, encouraged, and >saw through the successful campaign to bring the Berkeley Shakespeare Festival, now:renamed the California Shakespeare Festival to the beautiful Siesta Valley in unincorporated Orinda; and WHEREAS Clarence Woodard lends his considerable energies and 'fundraising expertise to such diverse, local human services' organizations as Clausen House, JFK University, the Oakland Boys Club; and WHEREAS Clarence Woodard has been lauded for his significant time and monetary contributions to charity by the Easter Seal Society, the American Canner Society, Episcopal Charities of California and by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, which ruined him a National Lifetime Director. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby CONGRATULATES Clarence Woodard on his selection as the Orinda's forty-second Citizen of the Year, COMMENDS Clarence Woodard for his unstinting'and effective efforts to improve the health, welfare and cultural opportunities of the people of Orinda and way beyond, and EXTENDS to Clarence Woodard its best wishes for much further civic and charitable accomplishment and enjoyment. PASSED and ADOPTED this fourth day of February, 1992, by unanimous vote of the Board members,present.
