CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 91/71
Commending the History Hunters
of Live Oak High School,Antioch,
on receiving a Special Recognition
from the Conference of California
Historical Societies
WHEREAS,the History Hunters of Live Oak High School,Antioch,
consists of a group of eight to ten student volunteers who specialize in the study of local
history; and
WHEREAS,their motto is to"collect,preserve, and share"the history in their
own back yard with the community at large; and
WHEREAS,these students work to"collect"historic information by
conducting oral history interviews with local senior citizens and systematically photograph-
ing the historical structures and sites in Old Town Antioch; and
WHEREAS,the students have helped to"preserve"the heritage of Antioch
by helping the Antioch Unified School District to establish a Community Archives within the
District's Media Center and by preparing traveling historical displays; and
WHEREAS,the History Hunters "share"their collected knowledge of
Antioch history by conducting walking tours of Old Town Antioch as well as visiting with
school classes and convalescent hospital patients; and
WHEREAS,the History.Hunters are the first and only high school students in
Contra Costa County to receive a special award from the Conference of California
Historical Societies for their"distinguished contributions to California History"and the first
high school students in the entire state to have received the award twice; and
the Conference of California Historical Societies,founded in
1954 and coordinator of over 400 local regional historical societies,libraries and museums,
has recognized the contributions of the History Hunters by granting them an official charter
as "Young Historians;"
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, does hereby
congratulate and commend the History Hunters of Live Oak High School,Antioch, on their
receipt.of this special award and for their continuing preservation of the heritage of Antioch.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 5th day of
February, 1991.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order
