I AAS , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder , McPeak, Torlakson, Powers NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Designated Driver Program RESOLUTION NO: 91/772 WHEREAS, alcohol related traffic accidents kill about 24,000 Americans every year and seriously injure more than 560,000 others; and WHEREAS, in California each year between 325,000 and 350,000 people who THINK they are sober are arrested for driving under the influence; and WHEREAS, Designated Drivers are neededto ensurethat only soberdrivers get behindthe wheel of a motor vehicle; and WHEREAS,they dothis by being the person in agroup who abstainsfrom drinking alcoholic beverages and agrees to drive the others safely to their destination; and WHEREAS, friends can take turns being Designated Drivers, or they can recruit a non- drinker; and WHEREAS, Designated Drivers WILL prevent collisions and save lives; and WHEREAS,whether at home orat office parties,on winerytours or in bars and restaurants, there are advantages to being a Designated Driver; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa does hereby support the Designated Driver Program, and encourages its restaurant/bar owners to participate in the implementation of the Designated Driver Program by providing non-alcoholic beverages to the non-drinking member of the group at no charge and also encourage citizens to participate in the Designated Driver Program by not drinking and driving, but rather coordinate one member of your group to act as the Designated Driver and refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages in an effort to reduce deaths and injuries on our roadways. hereby certify tnat tnis is a true and correct copy of an action taken and enteted on the minutes of the Board of Supervi rs on the dal shown. �//) ATTESTED: navy ri , i Original: Sheriff-Coroner PHIL BATCHELOR,Clerk of the Board cc: Health Services Department of,Supervisors and County Administrator Deputy BY
