IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
In the Matter of Proclaiming )
the Week of December 13-19 , 1987) RESOLUTION NO. 87/724
as Drunk and Drugged Driving )
Awareness Week )
WHEREAS in 1986, 2543 persons died on California
roadways in alcohol/drug related collisions and an additional
69,876 persons were injured; and
WHEREAS these deaths and injuries cost Californians over
$1 billion annually through services provided to victims and their
families; and
WHEREAS approximately 46,000 drivers involved in fatal
and injury accidents had been drinking; and
WHEREAS we need informed, concerned citizens who would
be willing to help reduce the needless deaths and injuries by
taking personal responsibility as hosts and hostesses or devoting
time and effort toward upgrading community programs; and
WHEREAS an increase in public awareness of the problems
of drunk and drugged driving may help sustain current efforts to
develop comprehensive solutions at the State and local levels;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa
County Board of Supervisors hereby PROCLAIMS the week of December
13-19, 1987 to be Drunk and Drugged Driving Awareness Week, and
. URGES all Contra Costa County citizens to learn what they can do
to prevent drunk and drugged driving during the upcoming Holiday
season.
PASSED on December 8, 1987 by unanimous vote of the
Board members present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and

Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
