SUBJECT:"Synchro Swim Week" February 26-March 5, 1.986
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County continues to produce outstanding
individuals, particularly in the sport of synchronized swimming;
the top four and five of the top ten athletes in the United
States will compete with the world' s best at the Moscow
Invitational; the athletes are exemplary of the growing
reputation that the San Francisco Bay Area is one of the finest
regions in the world in producing strong athletes; and
WHEREAS, energized elegance is a refined description of the
physically demanding sport of synchronized swimming--a sport
which requires precision skill, musical interpretation, grace,
split-second timing and overall body strength; and
WHEREAS, for more than 40 years, synchronized swimming vied
for inclusion in the Olympic Games as an official Olympic sport,
and in 1984 its dream came true; and
WHEREAS, during this week, Contra Costa County should stand
proud that we are sending our top athletes to engage in a
competition and a mission of goodwill with the U.S.S.R. and other
nations, itis fitting that our countries unite in the
understandings that the Geneva initiative and the Indianapolis
accord have brought. We extend our warmest wishes to the members
of the Walnut Creek Swim Club--Kristen Babb, Clayton; Karen and
Sarah Josephson, Concord; Michelle Svitenko, Clayton; Mary
Visniski, Concord--their Coach, Gail Emery, Lafayette; and
Manager Helen Fripp, Walnut Creek, participants in this exciting
international amateur athletic event.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of Contra Costa County designate the week of February 26-March 5,
1986, as "Synchro Swim Week" and urges all citizens to join in
appreciation and best wishes to those involved in this
competition.
