HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 12161986 - 86-711 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA IN THE MATTER OF ) RESOLUTION NO. 86/711 recognizing the retirement of ) Judge Joseph R. Longacre ) WHEREAS, Joseph R. Longacre, Jr. , Judge of the Municipal Court, Walnut Creek-Danville Judicial District, is retiring from the bench after serving for 13 illustrious years, having been appointed by Governor Ronald Reagan in November of 1973 and reelected in 1980 as an unopposed candidate in both elections; and WHEREAS, Judge Longacre was born in Berkeley, California, attended school in E1 Centro, California, studied pre-law at the University of California, Berkeley, received his law degree from Hasting College of the Law, San Francisco, California, admitted to the California Bar on January 17, 1952 and practiced law in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties until 1973; and WHEREAS, the Judge unselfishly served his country in the United States Army during World War II , serving in the China-Burma-India Theater, rising from' the rank of private to Captain during 1942-1946 ; and WHEREAS, Judge Longacre married Nancy Hinman in 1948 and together devoted themselves to raising their four children, Randy, Sally, Hyland, and Hall; and WHEREAS, Judge Joseph Longacre, an acknowledged scholar in United States Constitutional History and the life of Abraham Lincoln, approached his judicial duties with a special ability to see contemporary problems in fundamental historical perspective and always with an unswerving loyalty to the principals upon which this country was built; and WHEREAS, Judge Longacre is a man of strong and uncompromising principle who possesses uncommon courage in following his beliefs and has endured the sacrifice that such conviction requires before vindication has been attained; and WHEREAS, Judge Longacre, as an attorney and a Judge, has imposed upon himself the highest of professional standards and fully measured up to those self-imposed requirements; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County joins with Judge Joseph R. Longacre' s family and many friends in extending best wishes for good health, good fortune and much happiness in his future retirement years. Passed and adopted by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 16th day of December.
