HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 11061984 - 84-683 Xis IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Commending Supervisor ) Sunne Wright McPeak for Her Exceptional ) RESOLUTION NO. 84/683 Leadership as President of the County ) Supervisors Association of California ) WHEREAS Supervisor Sunne Wright McPeak has represented Contra Costa County in the County Supervisors Association of California (CSAC) since 1979, serving on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and as Second Vice President, First Vice President and President, and was the principal architect of the CSAC Platform for Efficient Government (PEG) which sponsored legislation to streamline the bureaucracy and cut red tape resulting in several million dollars savings statewide each year and a significant annual savings in Contra Costa County; and WHEREAS Supervisor McPeak led the fight in Contra Costa County and statewide to secure stable funding for local government culminating during her term as CSAC President in the enactment of the most significant legislation since the passage of Proposition 13, ensuring stable funding for local government which is absolutely essential for sound management and effective operation of Contra Costa County; and WHEREAS Supervisor McPeak established and chairs the California Public-Private Partnership Commission promoting collaboration between the public and private sectors to solve shared problems for mutual benefit, thereby increasing government efficiency and effectiveness through greater involvement of citizens in their own governance, and has initiated within Contra Costa County many public-private partnerships and has attracted critical resources to facilitate their implemen- tation; and WHEREAS Supervisor McPeak has been a key leader locally and statewide in developing greater communication and cooperation among counties, cities, schools, and special districts and has served as the first chair of the Coalition for Local Governance; and WHEREAS Supervisor McPeak has been a central force in the quest for funding of mandates and a leader in the lawsuit against the State filed by CSAC, Contra Costa County and forty-seven other counties; and WHEREAS as a CSAC Officer Supervisor McPeak has provided significant leadership to address problems of roads and infrastructure, housing, toxic waste disposal, jails and redevelopment, which all directly impact Contra Costa County, and has established the first joint CSAC-League of California Cities Task Force on com- parable worth and pay equity, thereby taking the initiative to address statewide one of the most important employment and economic equity issues of the decade; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby COMMENDS Supervisor Sunne Wright McPeak for her exceptional leadership of the County Supervisors Association of California upon the completion of her term as President, and EXPRESSES its appreciation to Supervisor McPeak for her dedicated service to Contra Costa County and for the benefits received locally as a result of her CSAC leadership.
