In the Matter of Sister City)
Relationship Between Centra ) RESOLUTION NO. 81/905
Costa and Taichung Counties )
WHEREAS, it is of mutual benefit to the citizens of
Contra Costa County, California, and Taichung County,
Taiwan, to establish a Sister City relationship through
cultural, agricultural, economic, athletic, and educa-
y ,, tional exchange; and

Chairman WHEREAS, the development of mutual understanding
District ! between nations can be fostered by the interchange of
citizens, cities, and counties as is urged by the Committee
on International Municipal Cooperation of the American
Municipal Association, and by the President of the
United States; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Henry Lin, Chairman of the Sister City
"Nancy C. P*hd*n Development Committee, presented the Contra Costa County
Ciisirict !!
Board of Supervisors with an invitation from the Taichung
County House of Speakers to establish a "sister city"
relationship; and
WHEREAS, Taichung County, with inland hills and ocean
coastline ; a population of 935, 000 ; a modern transporta-
tion system of freeways, railroads and airports ; moderate
Rob*rt i, schrad*r climate year-round ; and a blend of agriculture and industry,
District it! has many characteristics in common with Contra Costa County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of
Supervisor: of Contra Costa County, State of California,
ACCEPTS Taichung County as a "sister city" and appoints
Chairman Tom Powers as a committee of one to work with the
Sister City Committee in establishing the relationship.
