HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011981 - 1981-129 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Encouraging ) _Limited Use of Automobiles as ) RESOLUTION NO, 81/129 a Means of Reducing Air Pollution ) WHEREAS we the citizens of Contra Costa County recognize the effort we must make to achieve independence from fossil fuels; and WHEREAS we acknowledge that reduction of pollution will provide a healthier environment, and WHEREAS Real Estate values go down when air pollution degrades the atmosphere; and WHEREAS a chief source of pollution caused by automobiles is carbon dioxide; and WHEREAS there are 365 ,000 registered vehicles in Contra Costa County all contributing to the release of Cot; and WHEREAS walking and bicycling help create a healthier indi- vidual; and WHEREAS we must do our part to help reduce air contaminants; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Contra Costa County encourage its citizens to leave their cars at home one day a month and use alternative transportation such as walking, bicycling, car pooling or public transportation. Fanden having submitted a proposed resolution for Board consideration that would encourage the residents of Contra Costa County to walk or use alternate means of transportation (other than their automobiles) at least one day a month in order to conserve fuel as well as reduce emission of pollutants into the atmosphere; Board members having discussed same and being in agree- ment, adopted the following; resolution:
