"Child Passenger Safety Week" } RESOLUTION NO. 81/77
in Contra Costa County. }

WHEREAS the number one cause of injury and death to all
children five years of age and under is automobile accidents; and
WHEREAS Last year over one thousand children in this age
group were killed in automobile accidents; and
WHEREAS ninety percent of these children would be alive
today if they had been restrained in dynamically crash-tested car
safety seats; and
WHEREAS only ten percent (by a survey of the Contra Costa
Passenger Safety Association) of children of this age group are
protected by care safety restraints nationwide, and almost fifty
percent of these seats are not properly installed; and
WHEREAS, one--third of all child passenger injuries result
from non-crash incidents, in which the child is thrown forward during
a sudden step and in which the automobile is not damaged; and
WHEREAS the goal of the Contra Costa Passenger Safety Council
is to inform all Contra Costans that children's lives can be saved by
the use of approved and properly installed car safety seats;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of Contra Costa County does hereby PROCLAIM the week of January 23
through January 30, 1981, as "Child Passenger Safety Week" in
Contra Costa County and extends their highest commendation and best
wishes to the Contra Costa Passenger Safety Council in their efforts
in this program of educating Contra Costans in the necessity of
protecting the children of our city while they are riding in automobiles.
PASSED by the Board on January 13, 1981.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing is a true and correct
