RESOLUTION NO.81/1
WHEREAS Eric H. Hasseltine is concluding his four-year term of office
as Fifth District Representative to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS Supervisor Hasseltine, a Danville resident since 1969, was
elected in 1976 to represent a widely diverse supervisorial district including half
the county geographically, from the highly urbanized, industrial shoreline to the
inland bedroom communities of the central valley, to the east county rural and
open space areas, with the inherent interests and problems of each, including
especially rapid growth and development; and
WHEREAS Supervisor Hasseltine served effectively as Chairman of the
Board of Supervisors for the 1979 calendar year, as Chairman of both the Finance
Committee and Internal Operations Committee of the Board, as Chairman of the Local
Agency Formation Commission, as first Chairman of the Contra Costa County Solid Waste
Commission, and also as representative of the Board on a number of other regional
and local boards and commissions; and
WHEREAS Supervisor Hasseltine was particularly effective as Chairman of
the 1978-1979 Finance Committee during which time the voter -approved Proposition 13
radically reduced county funds raised from property taxes, which resulted in severe
impact on programs and demanded a substantial over -burden to the normal budget
preparation process; and
WHEREAS during his tenure on the Board Supervisor Hasseltine addressed
concerns of citizens of the county by actions such as the'following: advocating and
seeking purchase of a Family Stress Center; acquisition of facilities for a
Battered Women's Program; seeking creation of a Child Abuse Prevention Coordinator
for the county; identification of the need for establishment of the 24-hour Personal
Crisis Line currently in effect throughout the county; vigorously advocated and sought
to influence legislation to protect the Delta and Delta water quality; development
of a revised animal control ordinance in face of formidable opposition; and
enhancement of the quality of life for citizens in the county generally;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY,
CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it expresses to Supervisor Eric H. Hasseltine sincere
appreciation on behalf of the citizens of the county for his service from 1977 through
1980, and extends to him its Best.Wishes for the future.
