HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011969 - 69-776 IN, THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA .In the Matter of California } Constitutional, Revisions } 8ESf1LUT'IE?Y4 NUMBER 69/776Affecting Public Library systems. l WHEREAS the Legislature of the State of California, in en- acting the Public Library Services Act, recognized the public libraryr as a valuable and required supplement to the formal system of free education, and WHEREAS Article IX of the Constitution of the State of California is proposed for revision by the California Constitution Revision Commission In a manner such as to delete the phraseology that provides the rationale for vital legislative enactments such as the Public Library Services Act, and WHEREAS the function of the public library has been long established in the law and the tradition of our free democratic society as the logical means by which to assist all people in con- tinuously educating themselves; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that the California Constitution Revision Commission is requested to include in the new Constitution which it recommends, provisions which recognize that the state and local governments have responsibility for a public library system, PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20th clay of Novembers 1969 by the following vote of the Beard: AYES: Supervisors J. P. Kenny, A. M. Dias, T. J. Coll, E. A. Linscheid. NOES,: None. ABSENT: Supervisor J. E. Moriarty. RESOLUTION NUMBER 69/776
