HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011969 - 69-703 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Fatter of Proclaiming October 24, 1969 as United } RESOLUTION NO. 69/703 Nations Day. } } WHEREAS the United Nations has become the principal forum for open discussion of world affairs- and WHEREAS the vigor and effectiveness of the United dations have increased over the years; and WHEREAS the United Dations is now an effective instrument against hunger, illiteracy, disease, and despair; and WHEREAS the United Dations is a main avenue for cooperation in the peaseful uses of outer space; and WHEREAS the peacekeeping potential of the United Nations provides a key to world disarmament; and WHEREAS the activities of the United Nations have been beneficial to the national interests of the United States; and jdHER.EAS the authority of the United Nations depends on the moral and financial support of the nations and people of the world; and WHEREAS the General Assembly of the United Nations has resolved that the 24th day of October, the anniversary of the coming into force of the United Nations Charter, should be dedi- cated each year to making known the purposes, principles, and accomplishments of the United Nations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Contra Costa County observe United Nations Day on October 24, 1969, by the display of the flag of the United Nations at County buildings, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby urge all citizens to engage in appropriate observance of United Nations Day. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of October, 1969., by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors J. P. Benny, A. M. Dias, T. J. Coll, E. A. Linsch:eid, J. E. Moriarty. N'OE'S: None.
