WILEMS it appear; from the records of this Board that the Contra Costa
County Building Inspector, acting in accordance with sections 302 and B-1001
H-1002 of the Uniform Building Codes and sections 1.7014 et seq. of Title VIII
of the California Administrative Code, having determined that the buildings
located. approximately 275' northeasterly from the old Sacramento Northern
Railroad right-of-way in the area of Canyon, and more particularly described
as set forth in Exhibit "B", attached hereto, which is incorporated herein by
reference, are substandard buildings and are therefore a public nuisance; and
said Building Inspector having posted said property with Notice ,of Substandard
Building and having notified the owner of said property that they are substandard
buildings, in the manner provided by law as appears more particularly from the
declaration of the Building Inspector on file herein and
x� MM the said buildings have not been repaired or removed as
required by said Notice of Substandard Building; and
WHEREAS said Building Inspector thereafter posted said property with
Notice to Abate x`kisance, which notice specified the time and place of the
hearing before this Board for the owners of said property to show cause why the
buildings thereon should not be condemned as a -public nuisance, and the Building
Inspector having notified the owners of said property of said hearing in the
manner provided by law, as appears more particularly from the declaration of
the Building Inspector on file herein; and
.kM,RZ,AS the matter having come on for hearing by this Board on
Tuesday, October 14, 1969, at 2t45 P,X. as provided in the notice hereinabove
mentioned; and
WHEREAS the Board having considered the evidence presented by said
Building Inspector and all other interested parties, the following appears and
this Board now finds that said buildings are substandard buildings as defined
in sections H-1401 and H-1002 of the uniform Building Goole by reason of the
following deficiencies which are hereby found to exists

BE IT TF EFORE RESOLVED that said buildings are substandard and
are declared to be a public nuisance and the owners thereof are hereby ordered
to abate said nuisance within 30 days after a cony of this resolution, together
with notice thereof, has been posted to said property,
BE IT FURTFSR RESOLVED that it is the conclusion of this Board that
said buildings cannot be reconstructed or rewired in a manner so as to comply
with the provisions of Article 8, Chapter 9 of Title VIII of the California
Administrative Code or the Uniform Building Code as incorporated in the Contra
Costa County Ordinance Code and therefore said buildings must be razed or
removed.
IT IS FURTT.,M ORDERED that if said nuisance is not abated within the
time allowed, said nuisance will be abated by the Building Inspector of this
county, and the expense thereof made a lien upon the land upon which said
buildings are located..

EXHIBIT A
1. The structure: herein has inadequate sanitation as exemplified
by the following conditions under U.B.C. Vol. III, Section
Hw1C101(b) :
a. The dwelling lacks a kitchen sink, water closet, lavatory,
bath tub or shower.
b . The dwelling lacks hot and cold running water.
e. The dwelling lacks adequate heating facilities .
d. The room and space dimensions of the dwellings are less than
required by this cede.
e. There is a lack of required electrical lighting.
f. The dwelling lacks connection to required sewage disposal
system.
g. The Health Officer has determined that there is a lack of
adequate garbage and rubbish storage and removal facilities.
2. The dwelling; contains the following nuisances (Vol. III., Section
H-1001(d) ) :
a. Lack of sewage and plumbing facilities .
b. Conditions dangerous to human life or detrimental to health.
3. There is faulty weather protection and shelter from the elements
to exclude dampness. See U.B.C . Vol. III, Section -1001(h) .
4. The building contains faulty materials of construction. Tent
material is not approved for use in a dwelling structure. See
U.B.C. Vol.. III, Section H--1001(, ) .
5. The structures herein are not proper occupancies under U.B.C.
Vol. III, Section H-10'01(o) in that the buildings or portions
thereof are not properly designed to be used for living, sleeping,
cooking; or dining, purposes , for the following reasons :
a. The structures do not have minimum living space for the
occupants .
b. The 'dwelling lacks plumbing fixtures.
c. The structure does not have the minimum ceiling height for
a dwelling.
d. The dwelling unit is not separately connected to available
electrical power.
More particular information as to any deficiency listed herein
may be obtained from the Contra Costa County Building Inspector,
County Administration Building, Martinez$ California,

of California, described as follows :
Lot 12, as designated on the map entitled '`Canyon City,
Contra Costa County, California` , which map was filed in the
office of the Recorder of the County of Contra Costa, State of
California, on August 5, 1919 in Volume 17 of Maps , at page 363.
