State. } WHEREAS it has been brought to the attention of this Board that the United Mates Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, is considering the validity of a mineral patent appli- cation on certain lands located within Contra Costa County and officially known as the north half of Section 8, Township 1 North, 'Range l East; and WHEREAS approval of the mineral patent application would result in the exploitation of the subject lands through mining operations; and WHEREAS such exploitation would destroy the natural flora of the area and would preclude the use of such lands for recrea- tional and nature study purposes; and WHEREAS the East Bay Regional Park District has filed a recreation and public purposes application for the use of said lands; and WHEREAS this Board is in agreement that the subject lands should be acquired by the East Bag Regional Park District for development as a recreational and nature study area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THIS BARD RESOLVED that the Bureau of Land Management, United States Department of the Interior, is urged to take all necessary action so that aforesaid lands may be acquired by the East Bay Regional Park District; and BE IT 'FURTHER RESOLVED that the Bureau of Land Management, United States Department of the Interior, is urged to adopt a policy which doses not allow a mineral patent application, which would be of benefit primarily to the applicant, to be given pref- erence over a recreation and public purpose application for the same Lands, which would be of direct benefit to the general public; and. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Board opposes the granting of a mineral patent on the subject lands and fully supports the recreation and public purpose application filed by the East Bay Regional Park "District. PASSEL') and ADOPTED this 25th day of February, 1969, by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors J. P. Kenny, A. M. Bias, T. J. Coll, E. A. Linscheid, J. E. Moriarty. NOES.* None.
