HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011969 - 69-217 IN THE B0ARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of County � Compensation Policy. � RESOLUTION NUMBER 691217 WHEREAS the Contra Costa Counter Board of Supervisors adapted a Compensation Policy dated April 12, 1960; and AREAS that Compensation Policy was amended by Resolution Number 1074, July 24, 1962; and WHEREAS current developments, inclusive of amendments to Government Code Sections 3500 - 3509 effective January 1, 1969, necessitate further amendment of the Compensation Policy; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that said policy 'is revised to read as follows 'tContra Costa County Compensation Practices shall be reviewed once each year in accordance with a schedule which will provide for adoption of adjustments' effective at the start of the new fiscal year. Interim adjustments will be considered only in emergency situations as deter- rained by the Board of Supervisors Prevailing practice for similar employments in the labor markets from which the county recruits employees in the various occupational fields shall be the primary guide in determining the countyts compen- sation practices. It is the county's policy to oonpensa.te its svployments at a level which will attract and retain well-qualified workers. Prevailing practice is defined :as the prat- tce most commonly followed by other employersboth private and public, whose employment conditions are similar to the county's. The Office of the County Administrator shall be responsible for the data compilation and evaluations bearing on the determination of prevailing practice and, labor markets. Prevailing practice will be the primary'_ guide in determining the compensation level of worker and journeyman classes. In supervisory' and manage- ment classes internal relationships which give appropriate compensation recognition to the level of duties and responsibilities will be the primary objective. Proper recognition of levels of respon- sibility within occupational series and equitable treatment of similar duties, responsibilities and minimum qualifications are the goals. The county' s basic salary schedule shall consist of' a series of salary ranges with several Steps at five per cent intervals adjusted to the nearest dollar. The range series shall in- clude ranges with minimum rates separated by fiver per cent and mid-ranges with minimum steps ap- proximately -proximately at the mid-point (two and one-half per cent) . In determining the pay for department head positions due consideration shall be given to prevailing rates as well as interna, relationships."
