RESOLUTION N%1BEa 69082 '.pies, Retiring U. S. Steel ) Executive. ) WHEREAS Mr. Floyd S. :tai.e s is retiring from his management position with U. S. Steel, Pittsburg, California at the end of March 1969; and WHEREAS fir. ries was employed with U. S. Steel at its Pittsburg plant for nearly half a century, during which time he was promoted progressively from his beginning ,fob of Faire mill order and shipping clerk to high level management positions culminating in his appointment as Staff Assistant for Civic Affairs and Community Devel- opment, a: unique position in all of the U. S. Steel organization; and WHEREAS during his extended tenure with U. S. Steel Mr. Ries participated and aided in the growth of his company to a great West Coast industry and at the same time engaged actively in community affairs and saw his county grow from a, predominantly farming area with a, population of 65, 000 to a great industrial, commercial, and agri- cultural complex with a population of more than half a million; and WHEREAS tor. Ries was widely recognizes, for his effective work as a member and officer in industrial associations, local govern- ment citizen committees, service organizations, and community improve- ment groups; and. WHEREAS Mr. Ries, perhaps best known as "Floyd", invariably made the right arrangements to conduct both business and social affairs, got things dune whether the prospects looked goad or bad, and usually brought forth amicable agreements even in contentious situations; NOW. THEREFORE, BE IT By THE BOARD OF SUP22VISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it extends to Mr. Floyd S. Ries its compliments on his outstanding industrial and civic career, expresses to him its deep appreciation for his effective mark in connection with the development of his county, and wishes for him a long and enjoyable life in well-earned retirement.
