Barkley, } Assistant to the Chairman, } RESOLUTION NUMBER 691129 Board of Supervisors. } WHEREAS Mr. George T. Barkley, Assistant to the Chairman, Board of Supervisors, County of Contra Costa, California, passed away on February 13, 1969; and WHEREAS Mr. Barkley was a veteran county employee who worked for 15 years in county timekeeping and accounting duties and for 15 years as Assistant to the Chairman, Board of Supervisors , for a total of three decades of service; and WHEREAS Mr. Barkley in his direct service to the Board of Supervisors worked for twelve Supervisors, eleven of whom were Chairmen of the Board, and rendered loyal and effective service to them and also to the County Administrator; and WHEREAS Mr. Barkley, a native of Martinez, California and a veteran of World War II , engaged actively in community affairs , particularly youth activities to which he devoted countless hours and concerted effort over many years; and WHEREAS Mr. Barkley was a hard working member or associate of many local organizations in a number of which he served in a leadership role, such organiza- tions including Martinez Lodge Number 41 , F. and A.M. of which he was past Master; Henry McNamara Past Number 29 of the American Legion of which he was past Commander; American Legion baseball organization for which he was financial manager; Job's Daughters for which he was an Associate Guardian; and the John Muir Chapter of the Order of De Molay in which he held honorary membership; and WHEREAS Mr. Barkley, known to thousands of people on a first-name basis as "George", always possessed a zestful attitude in his efforts to solve local governmental problems, worked vigorously and with outstanding effectiveness in arranging testimonials for officials and citizens, and was always readily available to anyone when emergency situations developed; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it expresses keen regret on the passing of Mr. George T. Barkley, extends its sincere sympathy to his wife and other members of his family, and adjourns this official meeting In his memory and with deep appreciation for his efforts in behalf of this Board and the peoples which it represents. PASSED and ADOPTED this 18th day of February, 1969 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors J. P. Kenny, A. M. Dias, T. J. Coll E. A. Linscheld, J. E. Moriarty. NOES. None. ABSENT.
