HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011968 - 68-823 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Support ) of the Public: Library Services ) Act appropriation for 1969-1970 ) RESOLUTION NO. 68/823 for the full�r authorized sura } of $7,703,228. ) } WHEREAS the amount of money allowed by law for the California Public Library Services Act for fiscal 1969-1970 is $7,703,228; and WHEREAS the state appropriation of $1,200,000 for local library services for fiscal year 1968-1969 is inadequate to meet the needs of existing cooperative library systems ; and WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Library source of revenue is primarily from tax revenues levied against property owners; and WHEREAS there is need to acquire and organize larger and more varied collections geared to student needs in the current era of technological advances; and WHEREAS the public library is the only institution that can accommodate the full range of potential reader interests without regard to age, race, creed, religion or economic status ; and WHEREAS increased taxes on the homeowner is contrary to our current efforts in behalf of property tax relief; and WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Library joined the East Bay Cooperative Library System to meet increasing patron demands ; and WHEREAS failure of the state appropriations to meet the increasing number of public library cooperative systems reduces availavility of state grants to the East Bay Cooperative Library System, thereby creating a need to out back on services or increase local appropriations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County urges the Governor of the State of California to include in his budget message to the legislature provision for the full appropriation authorized by law for the California Public Library Services Act for Fiscal 1969-1970. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of November, 1968, by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors J. P. Kenny, J. E. Moriarty, T. J. Coll, E. A. Linscheid, A. M. Dias . NOES: None.
