Galvin, Community RESOLUTION NUMBER 68/729 Leader. WHEREAS John F. Galvin, a community leader in the City of Richmond and the County of Contra Costa for more than half a century) passed array on October 61, 1968; and WHEREAS Mr. Galvin was associated with the newspaper busi- ness practically all of his life, became editor of The Independent in 19120 publisher of that newspaper in 1914, continued in the latter capacity for more than three decades -until 1947, and maintained an active citizen interest in the newspaper media after he left the business in 1947; and WHEREAS Mr. Galvin served Long and actively and effectively- as a member of service clubs and ether community organizations, as a local and state official., and as an advisor to people in all walks of life including 'both prominent officials and leaders and citizens in humble circumstances; and WHEREAS Mr. Galvin, as a newspaperman and leading citizen, promoted the orderly development of his city and county, insisting upon desirable goals and discouraging adamantly the pursuit of objectives not in the best interests of his community; and WHEREAS .in his adult life Mr. Galvin, Eike few people, saw and participated in the changes and growth which transformed an essen- tially rural community with a county population of some 30,004 to a thriving residential., commercial,, Industrial, and agricultural complex ' with a county population of more than half a million; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT By THE BOARD OF SUP'ERVI'SORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRACOSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it expresses keen regret on the passing of John F. Galvin, acknowledges his outstanding accomplishments in behalf of the people of the City of Richmond and the County of Centra Casts,, extends to his surviving family its deep- est sympathy, and adjourns this official meeting of October 8, 1968 In memory of him, PASSED AND ADOPTED this 8th day of October, 1968 by the following vote of the Boards AYES Supervisors James P.
