HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011968 - 68-545 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Of CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of County Policy ) Concerning a Strike or Work ) RESOLUTION NUMBER 68/545 Stoppage. 1 WHEREAS the possibility of an employee strike or work stoppage has developed; and WHEREAS it is desirable that employees and the public understand the full implications of a strike or work stoppage among county employees ; and WHEREAS the provision of all county services is considered to be essential for the public welfare; and WHEREAS the Board of Supervisors considers any strike or work stoppage to be unlawful in view of the essential nature of county services; and WHEREAS for this reason it may be necessary to seek judicial restraint on any strike or work stoppage by county employees; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that county policy in case of a strike or work stoppage is as follows: 1 . Employees will be reported as absent without leave and suspended from pay status for failure to report to work. 2. Employees may be subject to disciplinary action such as suspension or dismissal . 3. Employees will not be authorized to utilize vacation time or to be absent with leave unless verifiable personal emergency circumstances exist. 4. Employees will not be authorized to charge sick leave unless the illness is certified by competent medical authority; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that any picketing or demonstration which interferes with the free movement of citizens to and from county buildings or movement of county employees to and from their jobs will be restrained by judicial action if necessary. PASSED and ADOPTED this 13th day of August, 1968, by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors James P. Kenny, .lames E. Moriarty, Thomas John Coll , Edmund A. Linscheld , Alfred M. Dias.
