HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011968 - 1968-356 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Urging } Adoption of Legislation to Eliminate "Roadside Business" RESOLUTION NO. 68/356 Signs on State Highways. WHEREAS the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County has considered a policy on Directional and Informational signing on Freeways; and. WHEREAS in the eastern states the practice of erecting directional and informational signs reading "Food,' "Gas" and "Lodging" in advance of each interchange is common and identifies the services in which the motorist is most interested; and WHEREAS the "Roadside Business" signs used in California represent a compromise to satisfy all businesses located at an inter- change whether or not directly related to the needs of the traveling public, therefore may be misleading to the motorist seeking highway services; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors urges the State Legislature to adopt legislation eliminating the "Roadside Business" signs on State High- ways and substituting therefor "Food," "Gas" and "Lodging" signs, where appropriate, such signs to be placed as directional and infor- mational signs only when the services are available on a 24-hour per day basis. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa urges all other Counties to support the adoption of such legislation. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 28th day of May, 1968 by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors James P. Kenny, James E. Moriarty, Edmund A. Linscheid, Alfred M. Bias. NOES: Ione.
