United States Naval Hospital , ) RESOLUTION NUMBER 681265
Oakland, California. )
WHEREAS personnel of the United States Naval Hospital ,
Oakland, California and of the Contra Costa County Social Service
Department jointly developed and carried out a Dental Assistant and a
Nursing Assistant Training Program for welfare recipients under Title
V of the Economic Opportunity Act; and
WHEREAS said training program, conducted at the Oakland Naval
Hospital , was significantly successful and equipped the welfare
recipient trainees with the skill and knowledge needed by them to
obtain employment; and
WHEREAS practically all of the trainees were provided with
positions related to their training; and
WHEREAS all persons associated with the training program merit
commendation for their innovative procedures, conscientious efforts ,
sympathetic understanding of trainee problems, and determined follow-
through to a successful program conclusion;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THIS BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLVED
that it extends to all participating U. S. Naval Hospital officers and
employees including Rear Admiral E. P. Irons, Commanding Officer;
Captain R. A. Middleton, Chief Dental Services; Commander M. E. Smith ,
Chief of Nursing Services; Mr. Terrence 1 . Wright , Civilian Personnel
Assistant; Mrs. R. L. Maloney, Personnel Staffing Specialist; and to
Contra Costa County Social Workers Mrs. Karen Baker and
Miss Frances Mullane its deep appreciation and sincere compliments for
their effective work on rehabilitation and the alleviation of poverty.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 23rd day of April , 1868, by the
following vote of the Board:
AYES: Supervisors James P. Kenny, James E. Moriarty,
Thomas John Coll , Edmund A. Linscheid, Alfred M. Dias .
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
