HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011968 - 1968-256 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Assembly Bill } Number 149 and Previsions for } RESOLUTION NUMEER 68/256 Property Tax Relief. } } WHEREAS the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County on March 26, 1968 adopted Resolution No. 68/188, as follows : "WHEREAS the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, has been and is deeply concerned about the matter of reducing the property tax burden upon local taxpayers and tax- payers throughout the State of California; and WHEREAS this Board., despite substantial growth and pressure for additional and more intensive county services, has managed to hold level or reduce the county government tax rate for the past seven consecutive fiscal years as indicated by the following statis- tics : Fiscal Year Tax Rate 1967 1968 $2.269 1966 - 1967 2.300 1965 - 1966 2.322 1961. - 1965 2.3 .5 1963 - 1964 2.345 1962 - 1963 2.350 1961 - 1962 2.3501; and WHEREAS this Board of Supervisors fully intends to continue with its strenuous efforts to effect county government tax rate reductions but recognizes that surging growth precludes sharp tax rate reductions without curtailment of services in the face of public demands for more services; and WHEP,EAS the county government is the only major local government taxing entity which has been able to continue with a sustained tax rate reduction program; and WHEREAS tax reduction efforts of the Contra Costa County government are being matched by similar efforts of county government throughout the state and such efforts represent the only basis on which uniform property tax reductions can be effected within counties ; and WHEREAS Assembly Bill Number 149 makes provisions for allo- cations of non property tax revenues to county governments and if enacted in law would insure significant and uniform tax rate reduc- tions within counties and lighten the property tax burden upon property owners throughout the State of California; and RESOLUTION NU14BER 68/256 WHEREAS it is the avowed intention of this Board of Supervisors and Boards of Supervisors throughout the State of California to utilize the provisions of AB 149 to their full potential for property tax reduction, purposes if AB 1.49 is enacted into law; NOW, T`rREFC '', BE IT BY THIS BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLVED that it strongly urges the Assembly and. the Senate of the Legislature of the State of California to pass AB 149 and also strongly urges the Governor of the State of California to approve AB 149 to insure that property tax payers throughout the State of California are provided with a significant measure of uniform property tax relief" ; and WHEREAS this Board of Supervisors is firmly convinced that there is an urgent need for property tax reduction as out- lined in its prior Resolution Number 68/188; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD RESOLVED that the position set forth in its resolution Plumber 68/1.88 is hereby confirmed. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of April, 1968 by the following vote : AYES : Supervisors James P. Kenny, James E. Moriarty, Thomas Jahn Coll, Edmund A. Linscheid, Alfred M. Dias. NOES : None.
