HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011968 - 1968-242 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of ) Proclaiming Week of ) April 21-27, 1968 } RESOLUTION NUMBER 68/2 .2 NATIONAL LIBRARY" WEEK. ) WHEREAS the geek of April 21-27 1968 is being observed as NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK, with the 1966 theme : "BE ALL YOU CAN E -- READ" ; and '*MRRAS it is the citizen's right to have free access to historical and contemporary knowledge of government , science, and technology, and to all varieties of inspirational and recreational reading; and WHEREAS it is the libraryts responsibility to provide these resources to aid individuals , through self education, in striving to bring about a society where ignorance and bigotry no longer will enslave the mind; and WHEREAS the citizens of Contra Costa County, by their use and support of the Contra Costa County Library, and their efforts in improving local library facilities, have recognized the potential of the public library in a democratic society; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, reaffirming with our constituents and with other county, city, state, and national public officials our belief in the "Freedom to Read" , do designate the week of April 21-27 , 1968 as NATIONAL LIBRARY WP`, , :and so urge its observ- ance in all parts of the county. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that during this period of April 21-27, 1968 , all fines for overdue books shall be waived. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of April, 1968, by the following vote of the Board: AYES : Supervisors ,lames P. Kenny, James F. Moriarty, Thomas John Coll, Edmund A. Linscheid, Alfred M. Dias.
