Citizen Reaction to the RESOLUTION by RBEH 68/239
Untimely death of }
Dr. Martin. Luther king, Jr. )
WHEREAS all citizens of Contra, Costa, County, California.
were shocked by the assassination of Dr. Martin. Luther ring, Jr.
on April 4, 1968 ; and
WHEREAS this great hegro leader had thousands and thousands
of Contra, Costa. County followers, both Negro and shite, who were
extremely troubled over the senseless action which resulted in his
death; and
WHEREAS all citizens of Contra Costa. County, both Negro
and White, with few exceptions, conducted themselves with restraint
and met in large numbers in an orderly fashion to participate in
services conducted in memory of Dr. zing; and
WHEREAS the restrained and orderly conduct of Contra Costa
citizens wa,s in line with the philosophy of =qtr. Ring, who sought just
treatment of all by non-violent means ;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THIS BC;,'iRD RESOLVED that it extends
to the people of Contra, Costa. County, bath Negro and, White, its
sincere compliments and thanks for their admirable conduct in a
period of great stress during which their sense of Loss was acute;
and
BE IT BY THIS BOARD FURTHER RESOLVED that it calls upon
all citizens of Contra Costa County to continue their commendable
conduct so that all may seek by peaceful means to reach the objec-
tives which Lr. Martin Luther Xing, Jr. worked untiringly to achieve.
