HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011968 - 1968-199 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Complimenting ) and Extending Best Fishes to ) the City of Shimada, Japan, } RESOLUTION NO. 68/199 Sister City of Richmond, ) California. ) WHEREAS the City of Richmond, California has established a sister city relationship with the City of Shimada, Japan and, in connection therewith, has established a Richmond--Shimada Friendship Commission; and WHEREAS the objective of said relationship and commission is to promote the development of Mutual economic and cultural understandings, initiate and conduct exchange activities between said sister cities, and develop a common bond between these cities and free countries; and WHEREAS the City of Shimada and the City of Richmond have conducted inter-city activities including exchange students, teachers and hospital equipment donations; and WHEREAS the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California is well aware of the significant advantages which relate to the City of Shimada-City of Richmond sister city arrangement, particularly in terms of understandings between communities in the free world; and WHEREAS the Board has been apprised that a representative of the City of Richmond will soon be going to the City of Shimada and there make several goodwill visits; NOW, THEREFORE, on the motion of Supervisor A. M. Dias, seconded by Supervisor T. J. Coll, BE IT BY THIS BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLVED that it extends to the City of Shimada the compliments and best wishes of the more than one-half million residents of Contra Costas County, including the people of the City of Richmond, and hopes that the Shimada-Richmond sister city arrangement will continue to flourish to the mutual advantage of both communities and the free world; and BE IT BY THE BOARD FURTHER RESOLVED that it requests that a copy of this resolution be delivered in person by the City of Richmond representative to the officials of the City of Shimada, Japan. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of March, 1968 by the following vote of the Boards AYES : Supervisors J. E. Moriarty, T. J. Coll, E. A. Linscheid, A. M. Dias. NOES: None. ABSENT: Supervisor J. P.
