HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011968 - 1968-197 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUN'T'Y, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the MAtter of Proposed ) Solution to Bay Area ) RESOLUTION NO. 68/197 Commuter Traffic Problem. } WHEREAS a major problem of the San Francisco Bay Area is the provision of adequate freeways and connecting bridges to meet the vehicular transportation needs of persons traveling between the East Bay and the City of San Francisco; and WHEREAS projected transportation requirements include, for example, need for the construction of an additional Bay bridgei and WHEREAS the solution to said problem might be reached either through the provision of additional highway and bridge transportation facilities or reduction in commuter traffics and WHEREAS the Mayor of the City of San Francisco considers the commuter problem to be so serious to his com- munity as to justify the application of a commuter tax to the salaries of all persons having employment in the City of San Francisco but residing outside of said City; and WHEREAS the commuter traffic would be substantially diminished and, as a result thereof, millions of dollars of highway and bridge construction funds could be conserved if commercial and industrial establishments now located in the City of San Francisco were to move to, and conduct their operations in, Contra Costa County: NOTA'►, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COU'NT'Y OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Development Association is requested to assimilate data and prepare appropriate brochures painting out the merits of San Francisco camerdial and industrial establish- ments locating their headquarters and operations in the County of Contra Costa and thereby taking advantage of favorable climatic conditions, fine transportation, good communications, excellent employment market, and extensive open space environment, and also avoiding the commuter problem which is so irksome to employees, employers, and government officials. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of March, 1968 by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors J. E. Moriarty, T. J. Coll, E. A. Linscheid, A. M. Dias. NOES: None. ABSENT: Supervisor J. P.
