HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011968 - 1968-114 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERt`ISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Proclaiming } the period of February 25, 1968 } to March 3, 1968 as "Fire } RESOLUTION NO. 68/114 Fighters Meek." )` WHEREAS, the International Association of Fire Fighters, AFL-CIO will mark the fiftieth anniversary of its chartering on February 28, 1968, having grown from a relatively small membership to a membership of approximately 130,000 professional fire fighters in the United States and Canada; and, WHFAS in the last half-century the International Association of Fire Fighters has negotiated reduction in working hours, which sometimes exceeded 100 per week, to more tolerable levels; has sought to bring salaries to more equitable levels and has pioneered as well. in winning pension rights, accident pay and legislation to protect those permanently disabled through Illnesses related to their work; and NHEREAS one of the organization's goals is the improvement of the fire service in communities, through studies to be mads by a National Advisory Commission on Fire Prevention and Control; and WHEREAS, the members of this organization are doing their utmost to protect people and property against fire or other disaster and as citizens are always ready to assume their share of responsibility in seeing that their communities grew and prosper; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board. of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa does hereby PROCLAIM the week of February 25, 1968 to March 3, 1968 as "FIRE FIGHTERS WEEK" in honor of the dedicated men of the professional fire; fighters' service. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20th day of February, 1968 by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors Fames P. Kenny, James E. Moriarty, Alfred M. Dias. NOES: Done, ABSENT: Supervisors Thomas John Coll., Edmund A. Linscheid. RESOLUTION no. 68/114
