HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011968 - 1968-032 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of the } Proposed Application of ) a "Commuter Tax" in the � City and County of RESOLUTION NUMEER 68/32 San Francisco, California. ) WHEREAS the Honorable Joseph Alioto, Mayor, City and County of San Francisco, California has proposed that a "Commuter Tax" be paid by persons working in, but residing outside of said City and County; and WHEREAS it is apparently the opinion of the Honorable Joseph Alioto that said persons have available to them, without equitable cost sharia - many services and facilities provided at the expense of the resident taxpayers of said City and County; and. WHEREAS it is the opinion of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California that residents of Contra Costa. County who work in the City and County of San Francisco do, in fact, already contribute substantially to the economic well being of said City and County; and WHEREAS their contributions in this regard include pay- ments for a great volume and variety of goods-, for service from theaters and restaurants and hotels, for admission to sporting events, for services of financial institutions and other profes- sional firms, and generally for all facilities and services other than those in categories made available to the public everywhere without charge; and WHEREAS it is also the opinion of this Board that the financial problems of the City and County of San Francisco are no more acute than those being experienced on a widespread basis by local governments including Conga. Costa County where residents are already subject to onerous taxation; and WHEREAS it is further the opinion of this Board that the City and County of San Francisco will arrays continue to be a great and unique cultural., financial, entertainment, and commercial center without imposing special taxes on its non -resident worker patrons who now help said City and County significantly in main- taining its stature; RESOLUTION N'UMFER 68/32 r�� NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THIS BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLVED that it urges the Honorable Joseph Alioto, Mayor, City and County of San Francisco, to abandon the "Commuter Tax" pro- posal so that the citizens of Centra Costa County will not be deterred from working in and for an even greater San Francisco# PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of January, 1968 by the following vote of the Board,.: AYES: Supervisors James P. Kenny, James E. Moriarty, Thomas John Coll, Edmund A. Linscheid, Alfred M. Dias. .NOES: None . ABSENT: None, RESOLUTION NUMBER 68/32
